    S.F. No. 2585, 3rd Engrossment - 86th Legislative Session (2009-2010) Posted on Apr 15, 2010
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
    1.6 Section 1. [174.186] DISADVANTAGED BUSINESS ENTERPRISE
    1.7 COLLABORATIVE.
1.8 Subdivision 1. Establishment; purpose. (a) The commissioner of transportation
1.9 shall convene regular meetings of the disadvantaged business enterprise program and
1.10 workforce inclusion collaborative, as constituted by the commissioner as of January
    1.11 1, 2010

    (11) coding systems and dual goals for women and people of color.

The most recent report issued by MN DOT awarded contracts of $116 Million with $0 to African American Contractors. This number is similar from our research around the country. As you are aware, Title VI has the power for inclusion; however as in MN, enforce and participation has been weekend since he 1987 ruling change, including women as disadvantage businesses in USDOT contracts. The IL DOT did submit an application to the USDOT that USDOT Transportation Sec LaHood denied.

As with any advancement, legislation is required.  With the legislation Springboard has started, we need supporters and others to bring this attention so that other states will have similar bills enacted.  Advocacy in the room is 8am-5pm for economic opportunities.

After eight years of the Pawlenty administration's poor leadership and disregard for policies, creating a business climate in Minnesota that threatens the survival of minority-owned businesses, members of the Minnesota Black Chamber of Commerce (MBCC) and the Midwest Minority Supplier Development Council (MMSDC) are collaborating for the first time to ensure their voices are heard in the August and November elections.

The MBCC and MMSDC are hosting a gubernatorial candidate forum Monday, July 26, at the University of Minnesota Humphrey Institute for Public Affairs

    Reader Comment -

The Black Haves and the Black Have Nots - America Open For Business is one of the most powerful pieces I have read in a very long time. Again 100% true. I am overwhelmed and filled with emotions.  Many mixed emotions.  You are a wonderful writer Lennie. One minute  I would feel defeated and beat down,.... and then I would feel drive and ambition to rise up!
I could go on and on about this article, but I think it calls for a couple more read-thoughs, there's just so much there it is a lot for me to take in. My heart is full.
